is it possible that my son downloaded adobe photoshop and erased or disabled the other software? It seems like it is recognizing my ipod as a camera

I got and ipod nano chromatic. when i plug it into my computer and click on the software it says it cant open it. so i tried opening with windows, adobe, and everything else, and the onlything it will let me open it with yahoo music but it wont let me download my music onto my ipod. what should i do?
