HELP! I just got and ipod and the software wont work on my computer?

I got and ipod nano chromatic. when i plug it into my computer and click on the software it says it cant open it. so i tried opening with windows, adobe, and everything else, and the onlything it will let me open it with yahoo music but it wont let me download my music onto my ipod. what should i do?

    install itunes on apple.com then try again

    You must have iTunes installed before doing anything with your iPod – putting songs/ vids on it etc.

    download it from Apple website – it is free.
