Is it legal to download commercial software for personal use?

I was wondering if it would be legal if someone downloaded something like Adobe Photoshop CS4 for free and only used it personally. Or is it totally illegal? Is it even possible to get a product like that for free? Are there any other sources you can point me to that can tell me more about this?

Is it legal to walk into a store, grab merchandise and walk out without paying for it if it’s for personal use? Of course not. The same applies to downloading. It’s completely illegal. The penalty is a fine up to $150,000.00 per file as well as up to five years in prison.
