What programs, software and languages do I have to learn to be a Graphic Designer?

Adobe Software
I do web design as a hobby. One day I would like to take on some clients, but I want to be prepared to be able to do what they may require. What basics do I need to learn. I would like to learn as much as possible from free sources on the net. I will take classes for whatever else I require.

P.S. I am also interested in 3d design and multimedia interaction. What programs are best to learn for that?
I know some of the following:
HMTL, some XHT, DHTML, Java
CSS
Adobe (Macromedia suite)
Adboe Ilustrator, photoshop
Daz 3d
Please let me know your suggestions for things to learn and any sources you might be able to point me towards.
Thanks in advance.

Flash definitely.

In addition to what you’ve already listed — a very good start — you’ll very likely need to know Flash. Get familiar with Dreamweaver, even if you can code HTML by hand. The idea is to save time on the mundane to increase productivity. You may also want to learn Quark or InDesign or some other layout software. Graphic design has a large web market, obviously, but you may also be able to attract some print clients if you learn the right software. Photoshop will be your best friend, of course.

For web technologies (HTML, CSS, etc), w3schools is one of the best sites. For JavaScript and AJAX tutorials/code, check out DynamicDrive.
For 2D graphics…really the only choice is tutorials (or a paid education), lots of practice, and a little artistic talent certainly wouldn’t go astray. The GIMP or Paint.NET would be good free tools to learn, if the Adobe suite is beyond your budget.
For 3D graphics, it’s pretty much the same deal. Blender or Wings 3D are good packages to learn, as they are the closest to the commercial equivalents as you’re going to get (3DMax, Maya, Lightwave) with free software.

First off Graphic Designer and Web Designer are two different things…very similar in the fact that they use the same design laws, but much different way of thinking.
That being said, to do web based design you said you knew some of the programs listed above. The new Adobe Suite is going to be the main source for all design apps from here on out, since they just purchased the Macromedia creative suite (flash, dreamweaver, etc) So knowing every single program in and out will turly be the best. I suggest getting text books just to help trouble shoot and learn new techqnics for doing things quicker and faster. Now as a graphic designer (that title usually intales, 2D Print design…logos, stationary, publications, posters, packaging, etc…) The main source there would just be Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and also Quark Xpress (since Quark is the post script that all major print firms use for their presses)
But no matter how well you know these programs you will always learn new stuff and keep learning new stuff…you can never know it all. Hope this helps, good luck!

Some people want commercial sites, so if you’re an expert at online Java you can get by with that… or you can learn PHP
